Countermeasures for the accident at Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants
(Role of NSC in this accident)
In a conventional nuclear emergency, the NSC Japan shall convene the “Technical Advisory Organization in an Emergency” that is composed of the Commissioners and the Advisors for Emergency Response and shall give technical advice to the Prime Minister.
In response to the accident in Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP, on March 16, after additional roles and responsibilities of each ministry were realigned, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) became responsible for controlling the implementation of environment monitoring and publicizing the results. NSC became responsible for evaluation of environment radiation monitoring results.
